SUP & Hobie Kayak Rentals

The coolest way to be on the water!

Quest Watersports offers rentals of Pau Hana Malibu paddleboards, which are big, stable, and have a “soft top” for safety and ease of use. Our Hobie Kayaks feature the patented MirageDrive pedal system, which make Hobies easier to use than traditional, non-pedaled kayaks – and they’ll run circles around them, too! You’ll be amazed at how easy and FUN paddleboarding and pedaled-kayaking can be…

All rentals are launched from Heritage Harbor Ottawa, which is a protected, low-traffic, 32-acre marina and great spot for beginners to get the feel for boarding or kayaking.  From there, riders may venture out to the Illinois River and enjoy 12+ scenic miles between the Marseilles & Starved Rock locks. For your convenience, our staff will transport the boards & kayaks to the marina launch site for you, and retrieve them when you’re finished.

Hobie Kayaks are very easy to learn; they are much more stable than “ocean” or “rapids” kayaks.  We will assist you with proper pedal adjustment, after which you’ll be pedaling like a pro in minutes!   Stand-up paddleboards require a bit more balance, but are still much easier to learn than you might think. If you have never used a stand-up paddleboard, we recommend that you watch the brief instructional video on our website before your first rental; this will greatly accelerate your learning process. We also offer on-water SUP lessons; advance reservations are required and subject to staff availability.

Because the watercraft are transported to and from the launch site for each rental, we request that advance reservations be made whenever possible. This will save time & get you on the water more quickly!

Please note that the Illinois River (outside the marina) is a commercial waterway. The river offers great scenery, as well as numerous beaches and other attractions, but can become busy with recreational power boat traffic (especially on weekends & holidays), as well as occasional barges. Wherever possible, stay close to shore to avoid traffic…and to enjoy better scenery! Stay well clear of any barges; they move slowly, but can’t stop or turn quickly, and may not be able to see smaller watercraft. Also, remember that there is a current in the river; it is usually slow-moving, but it WILL take you somewhat longer to travel upstream (against the current) than downstream, so please plan your trip accordingly.  ALL riders must wear an approved personal flotation device (PFD or life jacket) at ALL times while riding. Premium boarding or kayak PFDs are included with the rentals.
